A bit of back ground on Ken:
Even as a kid I was always interested in anything with wheels on. The first thing that I drove was a grey Ferguson tractor when I was 6 or 7 years old.
Living in the country allowed me to buy cars from scrap yards and drive them around the fields.
When I was 17, I bought and sold a few cheap cars from auctions, and before long bought an XK 120 for £60.00, I did some work to it and later sold it for £135.00, a lot of money in those days. This funded the purchase of an XK 140 FHC for £95.00 which I did keep for a few years.
At this point I was working as an apprentice mechanic for £10.00 a week and going to Newark Technical College two days a week, so I learned all about brake fade in both cars.
I enjoyed a few years of Club Rallying in various cars, including a MK5 Jaguar and a Lotus Cortina, but it became quite expensive, and in 1967 went self-employed, working mainly on Jaguars, including some PDI work on new ones that needed a lot of sorting out in those BL days.
I also went round the local breakers yards stripping parts off damaged cars that could be sold on again or used in the workshop.
I am a founder member and director of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club, number 9, and it has been great to see it grow to what it is today.
Until it was banned, I was very keen on rifle and pistol competition shooting, it was very sad to have to hand the guns in, knowing that they would be scrapped.
We have a very large amount of second-hand parts for the early models, and most of the quick moving new parts, we do pride ourselves on selling quality items. Engine parts are our speciality, and need to increase stock of these, both new and second hand.
A few years ago we bought the JEC Tools and Spares part of the Club, this never made any profit, and even though we have invested more into new product lines, it still does not make money!
My Daughter Annie runs this side of things, along with generally managing the stores.
We are always busy in the workshop, and always have a few cars to sell, many of them
I love sea food, pasta, Chinese food, ice cream, and Border dark chocolate ginger biscuits!
I like most music from Louis Armstrong, Motown, Andre Rieu, through the Kinks, ELO, Ultravox, into some fairly modern stuff.
